PM for BD-Bhutan connectivity to boost bilateral trade, business

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has emphasised establishing connectivity between Bangladesh and Bhutan to further boost bilateral trade and business.
 "We must establish connectivity to further increase bilateral trade and business," the PM said when Bhutanese Ambassador in Dhaka Pema Choden paid a courtesy call on her in the city on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Sheikh Hasina said that infrastructure is now ready on both sides and there is a need for transit through India to establish this connectivity.
After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed the reporters.
The PM once again said that Bhutan could use Bangladesh's seaports and airports for the purpose of trade and business.
The PM called upon the Bhutanese government to import vegetables and some other items from Bangladesh to meet their domestic demand.
In this connection, the PM mentioned that Bhutan imports Bangladeshi readymade garment (RMG) in increasing volume every year.
Sheikh Hasina also recalled invaluable contribution of the Bhutanese King and their people to the Bangladesh's War of Liberation in 1971.
The Bhutanese envoy informed the PM that the Bhutanese Prime Minister will visit Bangladesh sometime in the first week of this December.
She also conveyed the greetings of the Bhutanese King and the Premier to the Bangladesh PM.
The Bhutanese envoy highly appreciated Bangladesh's tremendous achievements in millennium development goals (MDGs) and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Charter.
Highly lauding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's dynamic and visionary leadership, she mentioned that a massive socioeconomic and infrastructural development has taken place in Bangladesh in the last couple of years under her able leadership.
