Thursday, 28 October 2010

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday that the government would enact tough law to prevent eve-teasing, a malady that causes unpleasant incidents in society.
"None will be spared, we will enact tougher law to stop this menace," she told the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters' Central Command Council-District and Upazila Command at the Army Stadium in the city, reports UNB.
Referring to the tragic death of Mizanur Rashid by eve-teasers in Natore, the Prime Minister said one of the culprits was arrested and the government is very serious to deal with this matter.
The Prime Minister also urged all to have patience in this matter, assuring that the government will take appropriate measures in this connection.
Another report from Natore adds: Different organisations formed human chains and brought out silent processions here Wednesday demanding arrest and exemplary punishment to the killers of college teacher Mijanur Rashid.
A group of 10 bicycle riders, who came here from Joypurhat, formed a human chain in front of the local press club for about 20 minutes from 10:30am protesting the killing.
Wearing black clothes on their faces, they arrived here from Joypurhat Tuesday evening.
Bangladesh College Teachers' Association, Mohila Parishad and Shikkha Protisthan Employees' Union jointly brought out a silent procession from Kanaikhali to press home the demand.
The procession terminated at Kanaikhali-Dhaka bus stand after parading different streets in the town.
A 15-minute pen down programme will be observed at all local educational institutions from 11am on November 1 protesting the killing of the college teacher.
Mr Mijan, teacher of Lokmanpur College in Bagatipara Upazila, died on October 23 after being injured by stalkers.
