PM for encouraging people to seek information online

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged the Information Commission to encourage people to use digital technology while seeking information officially from public and private bodies or lodging any complaint in this regard.
People have to be inspired seeking information online instead of written, she said after receiving the annual report of the Information Commission.
Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Faruk submitted the annual report of the commission to the prime minister at her Tejgaon office.
Two other commissioners Nepal Chandra Sarkar and Prof Dr Khurshida Begum Sayeed were present.
PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister appreciated the activities of the commission saying her government fully believes in free flow of information. She also laid importance on dissemination of all information in a transparent manner.
Chief Information Commissioner said a total of 21,000 designated officers are now assigned in the government offices to provide information to the people. He said people mostly are curious to know information about land, health and education sectors.
Mohammad Faruk said people applied for about 70,000 requests last year. People have lodged 1,095 complaints with the commission. Most of the complaints were disposed, he said.
