Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday underscored the need for modernising the national education framework further to cope with the technology-driven competitive world, reports UNB.
She came up with the views while witnessing a power-point presentation on the draft outline of the 'National Education Framework' at her official Gonobhaban residence.
Education ministry has prepared the outline.
The PM says technology is advancing and Bangladesh must move ahead keeping pace with the advancement of the world and technology.
The country's education framework thus needs to be a time-befitting one, adds.
Mentioning that the framework is being modernised, Hasina says
Bangladesh must not lag behind as the world is marching with knowledge, science and technology.
She expressed satisfaction over the presentation, saying measures were highlighted there to make academic activities more attractive to students alongside teaching them on life and livelihood.
The premier regretted that educational institutions had been closed for more than one and a half years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, although online education continued during the time. In this regard, she said, the children were deprived of their academic life and environment at educational institutions, including colleges and schools.
About the reopening of the institutions, Hasina hoped the situation would get normal in the days ahead.
She said the government earlier introduced pre-primary education to attract children to schools through games and amusement. Terming Bangladesh a land of rivers, canals and swamps, she says her government is building schools and colleges countrywide keeping this reality in mind.
Necessary steps have also been taken to build roads and paths towards schools in villages to ensure students' easy communication, she adds.
In the past, Hasina said, children were not interested in science education, and her government took steps to establish 12 science and technology universities to attract them to such education. In addition, the government established specialised universities on some specific subjects, she said.
About primary education, the PM said the government nationalised primary schools and attached the highest importance to technical education, following in the Bangabandhu's footsteps.
