PM for regional cooperation to eradicate poverty

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday stressed the importance of stronger regional cooperation to eradicate poverty from South Asia as it is the common enemy of all the countries in the region, reports UNB.
The Prime Minister made the remarks when outgoing Ambassador of Bhutan Dasho Tsering Dorji made a farewell call on her at her official residence Jamuna Sunday.
The Ambassador congratulated Sheikh Hasina on the landslide victory of the Awami League-led grand alliance in the December 29 general polls and her assumption of office as Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said big responsibility was bestowed upon the present government after the polls for carrying out work for people's welfare.
She apprised the Bhutanese envoy of her government's various plans and programmes to attain food security and to create social-safety net in the country.
Road and rail communications between Bangladesh and Bhutan, bilateral matters and development and uses of Chittagong and Mongla seaports were also discussed during the meeting.
Both hoped that bilateral relations between Dhaka and Thimpu would be strengthened in the days ahead.
Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury, PM's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Secretary of PMO Mollah Wahiduzzaman, special assistant to PM Abdus Sobhan Golap and former Ambassador Ziauddin were also present on the occasion.
