PM hailed for implementing different dev projects in southern region

Different organisations have hailed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for implementing various development projects in southern region of Bangladesh. They said all the past governments except the one led by Sheikh Hasina, did not give attention to the development of the region. The government in the last six-and-half years has already executed different development projects and is implementing the remaining uplift projects for the region, they added. Hailing the PM, leaders of Khulna district unit of Awami League and the city AL have said the ECNEC recently approved over Tk5.44 billion (Tk544.75 crore) for building Hazrat Khanjahan Ali (R) Airport and the earth-filling work for the airport is going on in full swing. The AL leaders thanked the government for the work for constructing Padma Bridge, modern Khulna Railway Station, Khulna District Stadium, Khulna Shilpakala Academy and Women’s Sports Complex. All formalities have been completed to construct Khulna Water Treatment Plant, a full-pledged television centre, an agriculture university, a 250-MW power plant and a three-star hotel for tourists. The leaders also thanked the PM for setting up Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital, Sheikh Abu Naser International Stadium, Mongla EPZ and reopening People’s and Daulatpur Jute Mills. They mentioned that the work of modern Mongla Sea Port is going on in full swing at a cost of Tk21,000 crore under the joint management of Bangladesh and Singapore, and 42 per cent dredging of Mongla-Ghasiakhali Channel has been completed. Mentioning the government’s other development steps, General Secretary of Khulna City AL Mizanur Rahman Mizan, MP, urged the government to set up a Circuit Bench of High Court Division, turn the 250-bed Khulna Medical College Hospital into a 500-bed one and upgrade Khulna Medical College to Khulna Medical University. He also stressed the need for reopening of all the closed mills under the supervision of Bangladesh Army or Navy. Former state minister Begum Monnuzan Sufian, MP, and leaders of Khulna City and District AL and its associate organisations attended the conference. Leaders of Khulna Inland Water Transport Owners Association (KIWTOA), Mongla Port Stevedores Association and the authorities of Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Shahpur Modhugram College in Dumuria upazila of Khulna also hailed the PM for modernisation of Mongla Port, the country's second largest seaport, and turning Shahpur Modhugram College into a government college, according to BSS.
