NEW YORK, Sept 22 (UNB): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived here Monday morning amid a warm reception to attend the 69th UN General Assembly (UNGA).
An Emirates flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage reached J F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport at 10.20 am (local time).
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Bangladesh Ambassador to the US Mohammad Ziauddin and Bangladesh Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the UN Dr AK Abdul Momen, PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, leaders of Awami League US chapter and a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport.
Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka Sunday night for New York via Dubai by the Emirates flight. She made about a two-hour stopover in Dubai.
After the warm reception at the airport, the Prime Minister in a ceremonial motorcade was taken to Hotel Grand Hyatt, where she will be staying during her eight-day visit. Hasina will attend the opening session of the 69th UNGA at the UN Headquarters on September 24. Earlier bdnews24.com adds, the Awami League and BNP activists in New York have taken position outside the John F Kennedy Airport in New York ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's arrival there.
Awami League and BNP activists took position about an hour beforehand with banners.
