PM inaugurates textbook distribution

Countrywide distribution of new textbooks for academic year 2010 got going Wednesday as Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the programme, spelling out some directions for upgrading the standard of education, reports UNB.
The historic '7th March Speech' of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been incorporated in the Bangla textbook of Class VIII and the declaration of independence interpolated into the Social Science textbook of the same class.
On the occasion, the PM handed over books to 11 students of primary, secondary, dakhil, ebtedayee and vocational levels.
She emphasised on the need for publishing more quality books for enhancing the standard of national education.
Hasina also stressed the need for providing tiffin for school students during lunch break.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Amin and state minister for Primary and Mass Education Motahar Hossain were present on the occasion.
Education Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman, Cabinet Secretary M Abdul Aziz, Principal Secretary to PM MA Karim, PM's office secretary Molla Wahiduzzaman and PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were also present.
Under the book-distribution programme, primary, secondary, dakhil, ebtedayee and vocational-level students will get their books free of cost.
