PM lauds JP for playing role of ‘effective’ Opposition

Thursday, 10 April 2014

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lauded the Jatiya Party for playing the role of what she called an ‘effective’ Opposition in Parliament. She urged HM Ershad’s party to criticise the government’s negative activities if any. “It is also the Opposition’s responsibility to cooperate with the government. Our Opposition party is present [in Parliament] and is duly performing its duties,” Hasina said on Thursday in the thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech and the closing speech. Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad in her speech said her party cooperated with the government in the past. “No opposition party had ever helped the government in Bangladesh. But we want (to do) it. But whenever we are try, the move is viewed with suspicion because none saw this system before.” ‘We believe in the Westminster form of democracy where both the ruling party and the Opposition party are complementary to each other,” Raushan added, according to a news agency.
