Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to formally inaugurate the increased gas supply from Bibiyana field next month. According to official sources, Chevron has recently completed its Bibiyana gas field expansion project that was launched 2 years ago aiming to produce additional gas of 300 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Officials believe that the bulk new gas will play a major role in resolving the country’s nagging energy crisis for which many industries and power sector are suffering a lot. The Bibiyana expansion plan includes a number of works like installation of processing plant adding 2 new trains with a capacity of 150 mmcfd each and setting up of enhanced gas-to-liquids recovery unit and drilling of 4 new development wells. In addition to the 4 new wells under the expansion project, Chevron has also engaged in drilling another 7 new development wells. Most of the 7 wells have already been completed, according to UNB.
