PM meets Jamaat chief in courtesy call

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday held a brief but notable meeting with Opposition Leader and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his Parliament office.
The unscheduled interaction, requested by the opposition leader, comes amid ongoing political engagement on key national issues.
The meeting, though short, highlighted a cordial exchange between the two leaders, with officials describing it as a gesture of mutual respect and political courtesy, concerned officials said.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman escorted Dr Shafiqur Rahman part of the way towards the Secretariat office. His gesture of courtesy and etiquette drew appreciation from those present.
Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Atiqur Rahman Rumon, said the meeting lasted for around 20 minutes.
He added that the Prime Minister consistently demonstrates respect and courtesy towards all, a quality that has been widely appreciated by the public both before the election and after the BNP assumed office.
