PM opens cricket stadium in Cox’s Bazar

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday formally inaugurated the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium here by unveiling its plaque. The world-class stadium being built on 49 acres of land beside the world’s largest sea beach in the tourist town will have a capacity of one lakh spectators. Apart from the main ground, there will be a practice ground in the stadium. Officials said a total of Tk 23 crore has been spent so far on constructing a modern pavilion, erecting boundary walls and development of the ground. Later, a gallery will be built and floodlights be installed at the stadium. The stadium, being built on a land adjacent to Cox’s Bazar Parjatan Golf Course, will be one of the beautiful stadiums of the world as it is surrounded by greeneries. While addressing a rally here today, BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon said a good number of World T20 matches of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan women cricket teams will be played here. The Prime Minister also opened the Cox’s Bazar International University by unveiling its plaque, according to a news agency.
