PM opens, lays foundation stones of dev projects

COMILLA, May 25 (UNB): Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of a number of development projects, including opening of the Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) of Comilla EPZ on Monday.
The PM inaugurated some completed projects while laid the foundation stones of the new ones through unveiling plaques at Comilla Town Hall Square in the afternoon.
Hasina inaugurated Comilla Bibir Bazar Land Port Road, Chowddagram Zila Parishad Dakbungalow, a hostel for the blind, Laksam upazila fisheries building-cum-training centre, a mural containing the history and heritage of Comilla set up at Comilla Press Club, bridge built over the Kathalia River in Meghna upazila, bridge built over the Pararband River in the Meghna upazila, newly built Chowddagram thana building and Mainamati Medical College.
She also laid the foundation stones of railway overpass at Shasangachha in Comilla district town, fire service and civil defence station centre at Burichang upazila, modernisation of Comilla district unit building of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Comilla district unit office of BSTI, repair and renovation of the house of renowned musician Sachin Dev Barman, human concern international school for the autistic children, Bangabandhu Law College Building, Poyalgachha technical school under Borura and Comilla district Muktijoddha complex building. After the formal inaugurations and laying the foundation stones, a munajat was offered seeking peace, prosperity and progress of the nation.
According to officials, the CETP in Comilla will treat the liquid waste of the enterprises of Comilla EPZ which will play an effective role for the environmental development of EPZ and its surroundings.
Messrs Sigma Engineers Limited (CETP) constructed the Central ETP at a cost of Tk 385 million. It will refine minimum 15 million cubic metres effluent a day both in chemical and biological system.
Among the operating industries in Comilla EPZ, 11 industries need ETPs being connected with CETP by shutting down their own ETPs. The treatment cost will be reduced and the quality of refinement will be increased by treating the effluent centrally.
