PM opens Nazrul Complex at DU today

The National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Complex on the Dhaka University (DU) central mosque premises will open today (Thursday).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the complex and place wreaths on the mausoleum of poet Nazrul at 7 am.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique told journalists at a press briefing Wednesday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had laid foundation stone of the project of complex marking the birth centenary of poet Nazrul on May 25 in 1999.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanok, DU Pro-VC Prof Harun-or-Rashid, Treasurer Prof Mizanur Rahman and granddaughter of poet Nazrul Khilkhil Kazi, among others, attended the press conference.
The DU VC said the project function had stopped for a long time after the changeover of government in 2001.
Later, adviser to the caretaker government Md Anwarul Iqbal initiated measures to restart the project function with the financial assistance of the local government department in March in 2008, the DU VC said.
Jahangir Kabir Nanok said DU Dhaka University would glow in the reflected glory of the spectacular complex when thousands of visitors would be visiting it after completion.
Majharul Islam is the architect of the complex, constructed at a cost of Tk 15.175 million.
