Prime Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed her firm belief to turn the country into a front-ranking developed one by 2041 and sought cooperation of the people in this regard. The Prime Minister was speaking to the reporters while exchanging Eid greetings with the cross section of people, judges and diplomats at the Ganobhaban, her official residence. Hasina said her government is working round the clock to take the country forward through improving people’s living standard. Noting that the people from the metropolitan city to union level had their Eid shopping until midnight throughout the holy month of Ramadan, she said it proved that their purchasing capacity has been increased and the law-and-order improved significantly. Hasina noted that due to various effective measures taken by the government, poverty has been reduced by 1 per cent in the last six months while the country’s overall poverty rate has been slashed down to 25 per cent since 2009. ‘This has been possible following the planned steps taken by the government, if the existing efforts of the government could be continued, the country will easily be freed from poverty,’ the PM said. She expressed her pleasure for a stable social and economic as well as normal law and order which prevailed in the country during Holy Ramadan, saying the people celebrated the Holy Eid-ul-Fitr with tremendous enthusiasm and comfort this year. She also said the country is moving towards progress and prosperity as massive programmes have been implemented in various sectors, according to UNB.
