PM reaffirms giving tough punishments to killers of army officers

Thursday, 2 April 2009

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said the killers of the army officers inside the Pilkhana headquarters of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) should be meted out such exemplary punishment so that no one else ever dares to repeat such a heinous incident, report UNB and BSS.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed her government's tough stand on the trial of the assailants at an emotion-fraught function where the widowed wives and orphaned children and other family members of the slain army officers were present.
The Prime Minister said this while formally distributing cheques for Taka 0.48 million (4.80 lakh) each as donation for a year beginning this month to each of the 55 wives of slain army officers at the International Conference Centre at the Prime Minister's Office in the morning.
Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) is providing each of the families of the military officers martyred in the February 25-26 carnage this donation with an annuity of Tk 40,000 per month for next 10 years.
