PM reunites with old friend

Thursday, 27 February 2014

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina caught up with a friend from her darkest days after she lost her family to a bloody assassination. The emotional reunion took place at SAARC Literary Festival Thursday.
Hasina, the programme’s chief guest, even made sure writer Ajeet Kaur, her old friend and neighbour from her days of exile in New Delhi, was seated next to her. Kaur, a Punjabi writer, was a special guest of the event.
The old friends twice held each other close and Kaur covered Hasina with a shawl she brought from India. The two were catching up as the programme went on.
The prime minister and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana survived the gruesome murder of their father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the rest of the family in 1975 because they were outside the country. Hasina was forced to live in exile at New Delhi after the government that followed the coup denied them entry into Bangladesh, according to a news agency.
