PM rules out interim polls

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ruled out possibilities of an interim election in Bangladesh and also a dialogue with the BNP. ‘What interim election? Why would we need that and for whom? Should we have a poll to bring Ziaur Rahman’s party to office? Don’t we know he grabbed power illegally!,’ exclaimed Hasina on Friday night (US eastern standard time) as she answered questions posed by Bangladeshi journalists in New York. Asked whether the ruling party will open talks with the main opposition BNP, Hasina told the journalists at the UN Permanent Mission: ‘A dialogue with the opposition? Who’s the opposition? How do you define an opposition in a parliamentary democracy? Those who are outside (the Parliament) ...What can I do?’ replying to another question, she said ‘If they are out (of the House), then they are not there. What can I do? They did not join the elections. One has to pay for wrong decisions in politics,’ according to bdnews24.com.
