PM seeks Italian investment

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has sought more Italian investment in Bangladesh in infrastructure, energy and power, port expansion, telecommunication, civil engineering and construction projects, reports UNB. Hasina made the request when Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Giorgio Guglielmino paid a courtesy call on her at her office Wednesday. The PM called for boosting bilateral trade and commerce for mutual benefits, said her Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad. "We want to increase exports of ceramics, pharmaceuticals, leather goods and shoes and garments to Italy," she said. Hasina expressed the hope that Italy would recruit more workers from Bangladesh. "Italy can be benefited by recruiting seasonal workers and service sector workers like nurses from Bangladesh," she also said. The Ambassador appreciated the leadership of the PM and assured her of continued cooperation in Bangladesh's development. Ambassador at Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister MA Karim, Prime Minister's Office Secretary Mollah Waheeduzzaman and Press Secretary to the PM were also present.
