PM shocked at loss of lives in launch capsize

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in a launch capsize in Padma River near Lauhajang in Munshiganj district. In a condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Earlier on Monday, the Prime Minister directed all concerned to make all-out efforts to rescue the passenger of the sunken vessel, ‘MV Pinak-6’. She asked Bangladesh Army, Navy, RAB, Coast Guard, police, Fire Brigade and BIWTA for immediate action to this end. The Prime Minister also directed the local administration to take all necessary steps to facilitate smooth rescue operation. The Mawa-bound passenger launch carrying about 350 passengers sank at the Lauhajang Point in the Padma River on Monday morning on its way from Kewrakandi of Madaripur to Lauhajang Launch Ghat, according to BSS.
