Wednesday, 19 February 2014

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock at the death of MA Khair, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and an organiser of the War of Liberation. In a condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled his invaluable contribution to the War of Liberation in 1971 and termed his death an irreparable loss to the nation. “The nation will remember with deep gratitude his contribution to the War of Liberation.” Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. MA Khair, founder chairman of Jamuna Bank Ltd, died of old-age complications at Apollo Hospitals in the city on Wednesday night. He was 86. He left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. He hailed from Jhutipur village under Muksedpur upazila in Gopalganj district. Khair will be ever-remembered among the freedom-loving Bangalee nation as he first did the audio-video record of the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu from the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrwardhy Udyan), according to a news agency.
