PM to attend Girl Summit

Saturday, 19 July 2014

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead a high-level Bangladesh delegation to London on Monday to join the Girl Summit, 2014. At the summit, which will commence on Tuesday, the prime minister will highlight the government’s firm commitment to eliminate child marriage and forced marriage and the progress made by women. Before the summit, Hasina will meet her British counterpart David Cameron at 10, Downing Street, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said. She will also attend several events hosted by expatriate Bangladeshis and return on Thursday. With the UNICEF as a co-host, the UK government is organising the first-ever Girl Summit aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) within a generation, according to a news agency.
