Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will highlight the issues like the Rohingya crisis, climate change and inclusive economic development achieved by the government in her speech at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Thursday.
She is scheduled to leave Dhaka for New York on September 17 and address the 78th session of the UNGA on September 22.
"Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all" is the theme of this year's UNGA.
US President Joe Biden has invited the Bangladesh Prime Minister to a reception set for September 19 on the sidelines of the UNGA.
She is also expected to attend several high-level meetings and bilateral discussions with different heads of state on the sidelines.
"There is a possibility to join President Biden's reception," Mr Momen told a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to Sheikh Hasina's busy schedule during her stay in New York.
"They (US) have invited us. We'll finalise it at the last minute. It's a long queue," he added.
The first day of the high-level general debate will be held on September 19, Mr Momen said, adding that issues related to world peace, security, safe migration, forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens' crisis, and establishment of climate justice will also be covered in the PM's speech.
Active participation of the Bangladesh delegation, led by the Prime Minister, in the UNGA is expected to strengthen Bangladesh's position in multilateral forums and broaden the field of international cooperation in matters related to Bangladesh's interests, said the foreign minister.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and spokesperson of the ministry Seheli Sabrin were also present at the briefing.
