PM urges consumers to maintain austerity in using power

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday urged the countrymen to maintain austerity in using power considering its increasing demand against the backdrop of country's economic and social progress, reports BSS. There will be no benefit of increasing production of power if we cannot stop its wastage as demand for electricity is growing day by day with advancement of the nation in every sphere, she said. The Prime Minister was inaugurating Electricity Camp-2011 of Bangladesh Scouts to make the people aware about careful use of electricity at a function at her official residence Ganobhaban. Hasina inaugurated the camp through a videoconference with State Minister for Power Enamul Haque and two local electricity consumers in Chapainawabganj. The Prime Minister unveiled her government's master plan to make the country self-reliant in power production saying as per the plan the total power production in the country would reach 13,300 megawatts. Bangladesh Scouts will arrange as many as 579 camps in districts and upazilas from December 18 to 21 to make the people aware about cautious use of power. About 40,000 Scouts will take part in the camps, Scouts sources said.
