PM voices warning against drug peddlers

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has voiced strong warning against drug suppliers and at the same time requested parents and teachers to give more time to youngsters to protect them from getting derailed, reports UNB.
"I am warning drug peddlers of severe consequences. Simultaneously, I would request parents and teachers to be more attentive to children. If your child remained on the streets taking drugs, what would you do with your wealth?" she said.
Hasina made the remarks after inaugurating the 'National Youth Day-2010' at the Osmani auditorium in the city Wednesday.
The PM said, "It is very unfortunate that a group of people is running after money blindly. In doing so, they are not taking care of their children," she added.
She urged the youths to earn skills and be eligible with a view to leading a life of dignity in the present era of modern technology.
Hasina suggested the young generation of our society to take loans from the Employment Bank and set up farms or small industries.
The PM also laid emphasis on the need for increasing amount of loan from the Bank to Tk 0.1 million from the existing highest amount of Tk 50,000.
She asked the Youth Ministry to arrange training for the youths considering overseas demands for various categories of manpower.
"Different countries want different categories of manpower. Identify their demands first and arrange effective training for the youths to send them there," the PM added.
She said Bangladesh's youths could make all impossible possible. "Our youths can conquer Everest. They can cross English Channel. So, they do not have any lack of capacity or talent".
The PM later distributed crests and certificates among 14 youths for their successes in self-employment and creating opportunities for others.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarkar presided over the function, while, chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the ministry Jahid Ahsan Russel and secretary Mahbub Ahmed were, among others, present at the function.
