Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina reiterated Thursday that the dodgy doctors would lose their jobs even if they do not stay at their places of posting for a certain period as per their service conditions, reports UNB.
"Condition is there, if the doctors do not stay (in place of posting) for a certain period, their jobs won't be made permanent, there won't be any promotion for them… even there'll be a threat of losing job," she said.
The PM made the observations while addressing the high officials of the ministry of health and family welfare in her first visit to the ministry after assuming office for the third time.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim and Health Secretary MN Niazuddin also spoke on the occasion.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek, PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, PMO Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury and other high officials of different bodies under the ministry were present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina said medical universities would be set up gradually in all the divisional cities, initially in Chittagong and Rajshahi, apart from the existing lone Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital.
"Medical universities would have to be set up in all the divisional cities to ensure high-standard training and education and we'll be able to do that Insha-Allah," she added.
Regarding posting of the doctors, she directed the concerned authorities of the ministry to give posting considering respective areas of the doctors so that they could feel the pressure of rendering healthcare services to the people of his or her respective areas.
The PM said burn units would be set up gradually in all the divisional and district hospitals of the country, and directed the health ministry to complete the process of appointing manpower to the hospitals facing difficulties. She also stressed the need for ensuring nutrition alongside food security and creating awareness among people about balanced diet.
Mentioning that it is the constitutional responsibility of the government to provide healthcare services to the people, Hasina said her government has been working relentlessly so that the future generations become healthy.
BSS adds: The Prime Minister said that she did not consider the country's population as burden rather it could be turned into a valuable asset for the country if proper education and healthcare services are ensured for the people.
"Many considers country's population as burden. But, to me the population is not burden rather it could be turned into a great asset for the country if they are provided with proper education and healthcare services," she said.
Sheikh Hasina also differed with the second part of the population control slogan of Bangladesh-'one is better'-of the main slogan-'not more than two, one is better'. "The countries which followed such kind of slogans have been turned into a country of elderly people," she said.
She said those countries now have not sufficient youths and the youth workforce. They have now started changing their slogans and now vying for two to three children instead of one in a family," she added.
The PM directed the authorities concerned of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry to conduct a survey excluding the last part of the slogan-'one is better'-considering the future generation.
