PMP fund sought for repairing Bhola-charfashion highway

BHOLA, Sept 18: Out of 68 kilometres of Bhola-charfashion highway, about 52 kilometres turned dangerous to ply due to enormous ditches as like ponds and canals have been excavated along the road.
Divers of buses and trucks lose their control at these dangerous zones and in many cases the passenger buses turn over or plunge into the road side ditches.
Roads and Highway Executive Engineer Shoeb Ahmed informed that the Bhola-Charfashion highway has now good links with capital and the port cities Barisal-Chittagong-Khulna though the road is totally unfit for traffic. This road can be repaired PMP (Periodic Maintenance Programming) if allotment is found under this programme.
The road has been repaired and developed in about 25 phases after its construction. But due to unholy ties between the local leaders and government officials, longevity of the repair work was not found at all.
Thousands people from all walks of life formed human chain at the important points of Bhola-Charfashion high way in different times of the last two years demanding repairment of the road.
Bhola Bus Owners' Association President Salim told the correspondent that in last one year, some 12 major accidents occurred on the Bhola-Charfashion highway.
