JHALAKATHI, Mar 24 (BSS): Bangladesh has become eligible for coming out from the list of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) towards the developing nation status because of the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.
Bangladesh would emerge as a developed nation before 2041 if the current trend of its development could be maintained, he hoped.
"We could took the path towards becoming a developing country because of the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina and we will become a developed nation if the current trend of development is continued," said Amu while speaking at a rally organised here on Saturday to celebrate Bangladesh's graduation from LDC group.
He said Bangabandhu wanted Bangladesh's independence to establish Bengalis as a dignified nation in the world but his dream was destroyed with the killing of this great leader on August 15, 1975.
Those who grabbed the power after the killing of Bangabandhu could not change the lot of the people, he said, adding that after coming to power Sheikh Hasina has been able to inspire people with a new dream and Bangladesh is now a prosperous nation.
Amu said the present government has taken steps to turn the country into a developing one and urged the people to rally round Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fulfill this dream.
"Let's stand beside Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and give vote for 'boat' to maintain the present pace of development," said Amu.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md Hamidul Haque, the programme was addressed by police super Md Jobaidur Rahman.
A boat race was also organised as part of the celebration programme.
