PM's steps in tackling BDR mutiny praised

Sunday, 8 March 2009

Speakers at a discussion here Saturday commended the Prime Minister's (PM) steps in tackling the last week's rebellion at BDR Headquarters saying that it was possible to deal with the situation smoothly due to her time- befitting and correct decision, reports BSS.

They also condemned the comments made by the certain political parties about the BDR mutiny as the comments have frustrated the nation.

Bangladesh Quazi Samity (BQS) organised the discussion on "Prime Minister's Time-befitting Steps to Tackle the Unexpected Incident at BDR Headquarters" at the Jatiya Press Club here.

The discussion coincided with a doa mahfil seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyred army officers.

The function was chaired by BQS president Ruhul Amin while director general of Bangladesh Islamic Founda-tion Shamim Mohammad Afzal, chairman of Islamic Oikya Jote Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury, chairman of Islamic Studies of Department of Jagannath University Dr Abdur Rahman, executive president of BQS Quazi Mobarak Hossain and secretary general Abdul Hai Talukdar, among others, spoke on the occasion.

The army officers were brutally killed at the BDR Headquarters as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy. But, they said, the conspirators could not succeed because of PM's far-sightedness and political wisdom.

The speakers urged the Quazis to play their role in nation-building efforts through involving them in social development activities.

Later, a special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for the martyred army officers.
