PM's visit to India will benefit B'desh more: Ershad

Sunday, 17 January 2010

Jatiya Party (JP) President Hussain Mohammad Ershad said that the outcome of the Prime Minister's visit to India would bring Bangladesh more benefit than India, reports BSS.
Ershad, also a former President of the country, observed that the Bangladesh- India summit level meeting carried high credibility and importance in strengthening the bi-lateral relations between the two neighbours.
He was responding to questions from journalists after attending a cultural programme in the city Saturday.
Padmakuri Shishu-Kishore Foundation organised the programme at the city's BMA auditorium.
"The government has not signed any agreement with India, which would go against the interest of the country," Ershad said and added that people would judge the BNP's action if it went for movement without any basis.
Ershad also supported allowing India to use the country's seaports. "This will help generate more foreign exchange," he added.
The former president ruled out the claim that providing India with the port facilities in Chittagong would be similar to handing over of the port to another country. "This is our port and none can take it over by using only the facilities," he said.
