Poet Abul Hussain turns 90

Poet SM Abul Hussain, a pioneer of modern Bangla poetry, turns 90. He was born in his maternal grandfather's Aruadanga village under Fakirhat thana (previously Bagerhat Mohokuma) of Khulna district on August 15, 1922, says a press release.
He passed much of his childhood in Krishnanagar and Kolkata. He did his Honours and Masters in Economics from Kolkata Presidency College and University.
Hussain started writing poetry in the late 1930s and his first poetry book, Naboboshanta, was published in 1940. He has 30 books to his credit including a large autobiography of several parts.
His poetry focuses on Bangali society and culture, romanticism, patriotism, nature and our liberation war.
Over the years, the poet has been honoured with many awards, including the Ekushey Padak, the Bangla Academy Award, the Padabali Award and the Nasiruddin Gold Medal.
