Ekushey Padak-winning poet Asad Chowdhury passed away on Thursday at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. He was 80, reports UNB.
His son-in-law, Nadim Iqbal, confirmed the matter.
The revered poet passed away while undergoing treatment for blood cancer. He had been suffering from the disease since November 2022 and was admitted to the hospital several times following that evaluation.
The news of his death has cast a pall of gloom on the country's litterateur society. Details regarding the funeral were yet to be provided.
Asad was born on February 11, 1943, in a Bengali Muslim Zamindar family in Mehendiganj, which was then part of the Backergnaj District of the Bengal Province.
After obtaining a Master's degree in Bengali from Dhaka University in 1964, Asad began his career as a lecturer in Bengali language and literature at Brahmanbaria College in 1973.
