Poet Shamsur Rahman's death anniversary today

The seventh death anniversary of eminent poet Shamsur Rahman will be observed today (Saturday), reports BSS.
Different socio-cultural organisations have taken elaborate programmes to observe the day.
On the occasion, Jatiya Kabita Parishad will place wreath on the grave of the poet at Banani at 11:00 am. Milad Mahfil will be held at the residence of the poet at Shyamoli in the afternoon.
Admirers have been requested to attend the programmes.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote will place wreaths on the grave of the poet at 9:00 am.
Shamsur Rahman, one of the greatest Bangali poets, was born on October 24, 1929, at Mahuttuly in Dhaka.
Poet Shamsur Rahman started his literary career in his early youth. He was one of the pioneers of modern Bangla poetry. His poetic genius was first recognised when he got the Adamjee Award for 'Roudra Karoti' in 1963.
Besides Admajee Award, he was honoured with other national and international awards like Bangla Academy Award for literature (poetry) in 1969, Jibanananda Das Purosker-1973, Ekushey Padak-1977, Kabitalap Purosker-1979, Abul Munsur Gold Medal-1981, Bhasani Purosker-1982, and Mitsubishi (Japan) Award for Journalism-1982.
