Poet Sufia Kamal\\\'s 15th death anniv being observed

Poet Sufia Kamal’s 15th death anniversary is being observed in the country today by different sociocultural and rights organisations. They have chalked out various programmes to mark the day in a befitting manner. A discussion titled ‘Young generation’s active role is a must for resisting violence against women’ will be held at CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka to mark the 15th death anniversary of the noted poet and social reformer. A memorial meeting will be held in the city where leaders of different social organisations and human rights activists will take part. A musical programme and recitation of poems will be held marking the day. Beside, another programme will be held in the city were leaders of women’s organisations will attend and speak. Sufia Kamal, a torchbearer of the country’s culture, tradition, Liberation War and Language Movement, was born on June 20, 1911, and died on November 20, 1999. She fought for women’s rights and liberty that later turned into a movement against social injustice, superstition and religious intolerance, according to a news agency.
