Poland to recruit Bangladeshi workers in infrastructure sector

Monday, 18 June 2007

Poland is interested to recruit Bangladeshi workers for construction and infrastructure sectors of the European country to fill vacancies created there through migration of their own people to high-salaried European Union (EU) countries, reports UNB.
"We discussed the possibilities of Bangladeshi workers for Polish construction and infrastructure sectors to fill up the void as Polish workers themselves move into other EU countries," Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said after a meeting with a five-member delegation from Poland at the Foreign Ministry Sunday.
Under the latest EU law, the developed EU-member countries, like Britain, have to give preference to recruiting workers from the EU's own countries.
The delegation is headed by Ambassador Jan Bielawski, the special envoy of the Polish president.
The adviser mentioned that Bangladesh and Poland have long-standing relations, which have the potential of being converted to strong economic and political ties.
"Poland is a key member of the EU and is eager to expand its trade and investments with Bangladesh," he added.
The delegation also included the Polish envoy to India, concurrently accredited to Bangladesh, Ambassador Krzysztof Majka and Member of Parliament in Poland Hubert Costa, who was born and brought up as a Bangladeshi.
