Police arrest 9 busting \\\'secret Jamaat meeting\\\'

Police in a drive arrested nine local leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from a meeting allegedly they were holding secretly at Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj district on Thursday night. The arrested are MA Malek, 54, acting secretary of Srinagar upazila unit Jamaat, Mohammad Laknur Rahman, 30, president of Sramik Kalyan Federation of Jamaat and local unit Jamaat activists Chandu Mia, 42, Mohammad Ali Nur, 43, Mohamamd Mosharaf Sheikh, 55, Mohamamd Shamim Mollah, 41, Mohamamd Omar Faruk Molla, 50, Hatem Ali, 42 and Mohamamd Shamim Molla, 28. Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station, said acting on secret information that a group of Jamaat activists were holding a clandestine meeting at a house at Shologhar village, police raid the spot and arrested them at about 10:30pm. He said that when policemen reached the village, the Jamaat men hurled two crude bombs at them in an attempt to escape safely. Police also recovered 11 crude bombs from the spot. The Jamaat activists gathered there in a bid to carry out subversive activities, he claimed, according to UNB.
