Detectives have arrested Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Kalimur Rahman in Cox’s Bazar on charges of masterminding and taking part in the gang-rape of a female colleague.
Cox’s Bazar police OC Kazi Matiul Islam confirmed bdnews24.com that the Khilgaon policeman was picked up on Wednesday morning from Kolatali.
“A group of DMP Detective Branch detained him from Kolatali around 10am on Wednesday and took him away.”
The female constable, also his ex-wife, underwent forensic tests for rape at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s One-stop Crisis Centre. Its Coordinator Bilkis Begum confirmed they found evidence of rape.
“The medical test report, forwarded to the OCC on Tuesday, said there is evidence that the female constable was raped,” she told bdnews24.com.
The victim’s sister claimed the incident took place at Khilgaon on June 11.
She filed a case against the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and four others accusing them of gang-raping her sister with Khilgaon police two days later.
OCC Coordinator Begum said they were examining whether the victim was gang-raped and will be able to tell within two weeks.
The sister told bdnews24.com that the victim got married to the ASI four years ago. Three years after the marriage, the ASI demanded Tk 1 million in dowry and pressed her to quit her job which led to their divorce last year.
The victim filed a case over the incident and has since been living with her mother in Gazipur.
She came to the Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital for treatment on June 10. Her family alleged her former husband forcefully took her to his residence from there and raped her with his friends.
