Police, BGB seize smuggled goods

Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized contraband yaba tablets, Hilsa and Indian smuggled goods and Phensidyl syrup and arrested 21 smugglers including two women from Chittagong, Satkhira, Rajshahi and Joypurhat between Sunday and Monday, report agencies.
The members of CMP in a drive arrested three drug traders including two women with 650 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from Bakalia area of Chittagong on Monday.
The arrested were identified as Nurjahan Begum (30) and Tahmina Akther (26) of Teqnaf Upazila under Cox's Bazar and Nazim Uddin (25) of Munshiganj district.
Meanwhile, the members of BGB seized 380 kilograms of Hilsa while those were being smuggled out to India through Jhaudanga area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila on Sunday morning.
Major Ahsan, operation officer of Satkhira BGB Battalion-38, said acting on secret information that a large quantity of Hilsa was being smuggled to India, a patrol team of BGB launched a drive in the area at about 8am and intercepted a truck.
The members of BGB recovered 1700 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Charkhidirpur area near Rajshahi city early Sunday.
However, none was arrested in this connection.
The BGB of Joypurhat 3 battalion in separate raid recovered huge Indian smuggled goods worth about Tk 19.57 million from different bordering areas of the district during last seven days until Monday morning.
BGB sources said being secret information patrol teams of different camp of BGB personnel launched the raid in different places of bordering areas of the district and recovered huge Indian smuggled goods including drugs and arrested 17 smugglers.
Sources said arrested smugglers were identified as Sanowar (26), Shahidul Islam (35), Mohsin Ali (24), Safi Akter (24), Hosen Ali (23), Rabin Miah (18), Obidur Rahman (26), Golam Rabban (30), Abdul Motalib (42), Hasan Ali (36), Mahidul Islam (32), Enamul Hossain (38), Zahura Khatun (45), Saiful (40), Belal (27), Rabiul (20) and Sarif Hossain (24).
Separate cases were filed in this connection.
