Police disperse demonstrators at Dhanmondi 32

FE REPROT | Tuesday, 18 November 2025

Police fired sound grenades and charged batons to disperse demonstrators who gathered at Dhanmondi-32 in the capital on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, police and army personnel took control of Dhanmondi-32, dispersing demonstrators, who had arrived with two excavators on two trucks in the morning.
Eyewitnesses said the crowd, including students from various colleges along with general citizens, marched from Kalabagan, Panthapath and other adjoining areas gathered near Dhanmondi-27.
The group attempted to enter the site, once Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence and later the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. At one point, a group threw brickbats and stones at the house.
There was also a heavy presence of army personnel in the area. Two army personnel were injured in a sound grenade blast and were taken to the hospital.
The law-enforcers set up barricades at the entrance of Dhanmondi-32, preventing the excavators from entering, and forcing the demonstrators to remain near the Metro Shopping Mall.
The demonstrators were then chased towards Kalabagan, Panthapath, and other areas near Dhanmondi-27. After a while, they went back to the main road again.
It was not immediately clear which organisation or group the demonstrators belonged to. The authorities concerned did not issue any formal statement regarding the procession.
The persons, who gathered at Dhanmondi-32, said the programme was organised to press for the "maximum punishment" for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina over allegations of mass killings. Their action was planned to "eradicate fascism symbolically" by bulldozing the house.
