Thursday, 25 December 2014

Police have failed to submit investigation reports in 2 cases filed over Rana Plaza collapse, 20 months after the multi-storey building caved in at Savar town killing more than 1100 people and maiming scores. Investigation officer (IO) of the cases Assistant Superintendent of CID Police Bijoy Krishna Kar was supposed to submit the probe reports on December 24. But he failed to submit the reports on Wednesday, exactly 20 month after Rana Plaza which housed five readymade garment units when it caved in, collapsed at Savar Bus Stand on April 24 last year. On April 25, 2013, two separate cases were filed, 24 hours after Rana Plaza collapsed. Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) official Helal Uddin filed a case against 13 for not following the Building Code during construction of the 9-storey commercial complex in the outskirts of Dhaka city. The other case was filed by Sub-Inspector of Savar Thana Wali Ashraf against 21 people, including building owner Sohel Rana and his father Abdul Khalek, and the owners of five RMG units housed in the building, according to a news agency.
