Police force being harassed by BNP, alleges Quader

FE REPORT | Saturday, 22 June 2024

Bangladesh Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader alleged on Friday that the country's police force was being harassed by vested quarters including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He said that BNP leaders were grossly spreading rumours and falsehood against Awami League (AL) and the police.
"They (BNP) are extremely bothering the police. They have evil plans against the army. It needs to be considered whether they are trying to eliminate the Awami League through attempts to identify them as corrupt," said Mr Quader.
He made the remarks while addressing a rally prior to a procession brought out on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of AL from in front of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital on Friday.
The ruling party Bangladesh Awami League's 75th founding anniversary is June 23.
Referring to the news reports related to corruption in different media, Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, "Now they are spreading rumours saying that our party is a corrupt one. Even some media have also taken part in spreading the propaganda."
"However powerful a corrupt individual is, AL is brave enough to bring him or her to trial," he added.
"Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is independent, judiciary is independent... Sheikh Hasina has the courage to bring the corrupt to trial," he said and criticised 'the attempt to propagate Awani League as corrupt' in a blanket manner.
