Police get 3 days to quiz journalist Probir

A Faridpur court on Tuesday granted police three days to interrogate journalist Probir Sikdar in a case filed under the ICT Act. He stands accused for ‘libel’ against LGRD Minister Khandker Musharraf Hossain by a post on the Facebook. Judge Md Hamidul Haque gave the order on Tuesday after police sought a 10-day remand. The case was filed in the Faridpur Cognisance Court on Sunday, almost five hours after police in Dhaka picked up Probir from his office.
Meanwhile, the Centre to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called for the immediate release of Probir Sikdar. In a release, the CPJ’s Asia Programme Research Associate Sumit Galhotra said, "We call on authorities to immediately release journalist Probir Sikdar and investigate the threats against him." Probir was moved to Faridpur town around Sunday midnight after he was held in Dhaka in the evening. The court on Monday sent him to prison, according to bdnews24.com.
