Police hunting for BNP leader Rizvi, says DB chief

FE REPORT | Monday, 1 January 2024

Police would arrest Senior Joint Secretary- General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Ruhul Kabir Rizvi anytime following cases filed against him, said Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and chief of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid on Sunday.
"We (police) are searching Rizvi as several cases have been filed against him. We would bring him to book
soon," Mr Harun-or- Rashid told the media at his office in the city.
"Rizvi announced different programmes (political) and later they (his party followers) took part in anarchic activities in the name of movement. To cast vote is a democratic right of the people. He (Rizvi) had been discouraging voters from going to the polling centres. Several cases (complaints) were filed against Rizvi and we will bring him to book soon," he said.
"We (DB police) have arrested many big leaders (mainly of the opposition BNP) following cases filed against them. We are also searching Rizvi and will arrest him after several cases filed against him (Rizvi)," he warned.
"How a physically ill person (like Rizvi) could regularly declare programmes of movement?" he questioned.
"If he (Rizvi) is really ill, then he could appear before the court," he said further.
