Police informant killed

A police informer has been murdered at Tongi in the outskirts of Dhaka city, police say. Md Nazir Ahmed, 32, worked as a source of Tongi Model Police Station, Gazipur. Nazir lived in a slum at Ershad Nagar with his wife and child. The victim’s elder brother Kabir Hossain said a group of young men picked up Nazir from his house on Wednesday evening. Locals saw his body in Auch Parha around 8.30pm and informed police. The miscreants had severed the wrists in both his hands. The body also bore injuries on the head, face and back. The body was sent to the Gazipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Tongi Model Police Station SI Md Alamgir Gazi. One Rezaul Islam Roni, 24, was held in connection with the killing on Thursday, according to a news agency.
