Police have traced out a Chittagong-based businessman 40 days after he went into hiding failing to pay back his debts. Shahidul Islam, owner of a motor parts outlet in Chittagong’s Kadamtali, went ‘missing’ on June 2. His wife filed a case over his disappearance with Sadarghat police station in the port city two days later. Police traced him to Bagerhat district earlier this month. Islam said he borrowed a large sum of money – around Tk 1 million – from various people for business purpose. But he failed to pay them back. Unable to clear his debts, he decided to flee Chittagong. On June 2, he travelled to Sylhet, then he switched off his mobile phone and made his way to Bagerhat from there. After reaching Bagerhat, he assumed the name of ‘Shahid’ and made acquaintance with one 'Rafiq'. He started living with Rafiq and landed a job at a shop. Police said they monitored Shahid for a few days. They were finally able to pinpoint his location through Rafiq by tracing mobile calls, according to bdnews24.com.
