Police nab two muggers after gunfight in city

Two muggers were injured in a gunfight with the police at Manik Miah Avenue in the city early Monday, police said.
A patrol team from Tejgaon police station locked in a gun battle when they intercepted a gang of muggers when they were robbing passengers aboard a CNG three wheeler on the road at about 2:00am.
At one stage of the shooting, the two muggers Khalil and Swapan received gunshot wounds and were caught by the police while their associates managed to flee from the spot.
Both the injured were undergoing treatment at the Orthopedic Hospital under police protection.
However, police seized a knife and two bullets from the spot.
Meanwhile, armed muggers Monday took away Tk 0.6 million from an official of a textile mill on Minto Road in the city adjacent to the Ramna police station, police said.
Three muggers on a motorcycle approached a covered van of Vanu Valla Textile Mills that was stuck in the traffic jam on the road at about 1:45pm and snatched the money from Alamin, office secretary of the company. An official of the police station told the FE that Alamin withdrew the money from a branch of Standard Chartered Bank in Motijheel and was going to his office at 317, Boro Moghbazar in the city on board the van.
