Police officer killed, 20 other cops injured in crash

A policeman was killed and 20 of his colleagues were injured, some of them critically, in a road accident in Khagrhachharhi district on Saturday night. The accident took place after a bus carrying them fell into a roadside ditch in Alutila garbage dump area on Khagrhachharhi-Chittagong Highway around 8:30pm.The dead is Abu Bakkar, a police officer. The identities of the injured could not be known. All the officers were deputed at Khagrhachharhi Police Lines. Khagrhachharhi Superintendent of Police Sheikh Mizanur Rahman said that the bus, carrying at least 50 policemen, was coming from Comilla. He said the vehicle fell in the ditch after the driver lost control over the steering. The injured were admitted to Khagrhachharhi Sadar Hospital. The hospital's resident physician, Sanjib Tripura said conditions of five of the injured were critical. They would be sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital at the soonest for better treatment, he added, according to private TV channels.
