Police officer, wife murder: Sumi gets bail

Khadiza Khatun Sumi, the young domestic worker accused of assisting the murders of Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum, has been granted bail. Dhaka Additional Sessions Judge and Juvenile Court Judge Mosammat Zakia Parvin passed the order on Tuesday. ‘The 15-year old will be released from Gazipur's correctional facility after her parents submit her bail documents on May 26,’ said her lawyer Syed Nazmul Huda. ‘Her parents can take her home after that.’ Mahfuz and Swapna were found dead, their bodies locked in the bathroom of their Chamelibagh home in the city on Aug 16 last year. The couple’s 19-year old daughter Oishee Rahman, missing since the discovery, turned herself to police few days later. Police has named her as prime suspect. Sumi and Oishee’s friends ‘Rony’ and ‘Jony’ were arrested following her surrender. Police in a charge-sheet filed over the sensational double murder on Mar 9 accused Sumi of assisting in the murders. Oishee’s friends were accused of providing shelter to her. Oishee and her two friends were indicted on May 6 and are currently in jail, according to bdnews24.com.
