Police outpost attacked in Sirajganj

Monday, 28 April 2014

Angry residents in Sirajganj attacked a police outpost on Sunday after a teenager died when police fired from their guns to disperse a clash. Al Kamal, 18, was killed when groups of youth belonging to two neighbourhoods clashed yesterday at Putthiyabarhi in Sirajganj town. Police said they opened fire when the warring groups torched houses. Locals, however, claim that police fired all on a sudden, which left three with bullet wounds. Of them, Kamal, who was sitting the HSC exams, died on the spot. Agitated people gathered in numbers and marched down with streets the body around 8pm. As soon as the procession came near Elliot bridge, locals from the protest march attacked the police outpost. Sirajganj Sadar Police Station OC Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident. Tension is prevailing in the district town over the teenager’s death. Sirajul Islam said they were trying to defuse the tension, according to a news agency.
