FE Report
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were Sunday asked to work together by putting aside differences that have surfaced recently over the arrest of killers of a police officer.
Misunderstanding between the two law enforcement agencies came to light after both made separate arrests in connection with the killing of second officer of Bangshal police station Gautam Kumar Roy, who was gunned down on April 20 this year.
Inspector General of Police Noor Muhammad called an emergency meeting at the police headquarters Sunday morning with the high-ups of police and RAB to clear the differences over the issue.
"Law enforcing agencies always regard crime incidents from their own viewpoints, and mistakes can happen when they try to claim credit for the arrests," the IGP said.
"I asked them to work together to investigate the case," he said.
The police chief said as a sensational case, the SI Gautam murder case is currently listed with the home ministry monitoring cell. "They will decide on the fate of the case now."
RAB chief Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, RAB-10 commander SM Kamal Hossain, Police's Criminal Investigation Department chief Syed Shah Jamal Raj, Dhaka Metropolitan police commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque and Dhaka metropolitan detective police deputy commissioner Mahbubur Rahman were present during the meeting.
Mona Miah, a witness to the murder, also attended the meeting.
Police arrested Haider and Zakir April 23 and April 28 respectively, claiming them to be Gautam's killers.
On April 25, RAB arrested two men with the same names and claimed them as the killers.
